What is WTYA?

Woodford Theatre Young Artists is a select education-focused training program encompassing all areas of theatre arts from pre-production to performance, with curriculum designed to develop and sustain the whole theatre artist.

Students participate in weekly training, with performance opportunities both locally and regionally. The WTYA curriculum is taught by theatre professionals who have a desire to lead young artists and prepare them for the future.

Weekly training includes training in all areas of theatre - from dance, music, and acting to design, technical work, and marketing. Guest artists with specific areas of expertise are utilized to broaden the students' learning opportunities.

Who can audition?

Students ages 10-18 are welcome to audition!

When are auditions?

Auditions are June 25th and 26th, between 5:00p and 9:00p. You will sign up for a time slot on one of those days.

How do I sign up for auditions?

Sign ups are available soon - check back on this page for more information!

When and where does WTYA meet?

WTYA rehearses on Sunday afternoons / early evenings, generally in the 3:00p to 7:00p timeframe. Rehearsals are held in our studio space at Woodford Theatre, in Versailles.

How do I prepare?

Prepare a 16-32 bar selection from a musical theatre song. This trimmed selection should end up being approximately 45 seconds to 1:30 in length. You may bring sheet music for our accompanist to play, or you may bring a recorded backing track. If you choose the prerecorded track, make sure there are no vocals on the recording you will sing with - we want to hear you! You will also be taught a short dance combination, so wear comfortable clothes you can move in, and closed toe shoes that will stay on your feet. We will have a brief talking / interview time to get to you know you a bit as well!

But I can't make auditions on June 25th and 26th! Can I still audition?

We may have an alternate date in July. If none of the dates work, you may request an alternate audition time, and we will email you to make arrangements.

What are the costs?

Tuition is $1350 for the season, which can be divided up to be paid by the semester, or monthly. Limited tuition assistance is available.

There is also travel to the Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta, GA. Travel and festival costs are in addition to the tuition costs, but fundraising takes place to lower these costs as much as possible.

I have more questions!

We would be happy to answer them! Send us an email at wtya@woodfordtheatre.com.
