The Woodford Theatre Young Artists
WHAT IS WTYA?
- At Woodford Theatre Young Artists, our mission is to inspire, educate, and empower young people through the magic of theater. We provide a kind, respectful, nurturing, and inclusive environment where students can explore their creativity, build confidence, and develop lifelong skills through performance and collaboration. By celebrating every voice and encouraging self-expression, we foster a love of the arts and a strong sense of community—onstage and beyond.
- At WTYA, students engage in weekly comprehensive training led by experienced theatre professionals passionate about mentoring young artists and preparing them for the future.
- Our curriculum offers hands-on instruction in all aspects of theatre—including acting, singing, dance, design, and technical production. In addition to regular classes, students gain valuable experience through local and regional performance opportunities. To enrich their learning, guest artists with specialized expertise are brought in throughout the year, offering unique insights and expanding the students’ creative horizons.

WHEN AND WHERE DOES WTYA MEET?
WTYA rehearses:
- Sundays, approximately 3:00-7:00 PM
- Wednesdays, 6:00-8:00 PM
Rehearsals are held in the backstage studio at Woodford Theatre.
HOW DO I PREPARE?
Please prepare a 16–32 bar selection from a musical theatre song (approximately 45 seconds to 1 minute and 30 seconds in length). You may bring sheet music for our accompanist or a recorded backing track—just be sure your track has no vocals, as we want to hear you sing!
During the audition, you’ll also learn a short dance combination, so wear comfortable clothing you can move in and closed-toe shoes that stay securely on your feet.
Lastly, we’ll have a brief interview to get to know you better—so come ready to share a bit about yourself!
Woodford Theatre is offering a FREE AUDITION WORKSHOP with the teaching artists - FIND OUT MORE HERE!
WHAT IF I CANNOT ATTEND AUDITION?
If you’re unable to attend the scheduled audition, you may request an alternate time. We’ll contact you via email to make arrangements, which may include submitting a video audition.
WHAT IS THE COST TO PARTICIPATE?
Tuition for the season is $1,350/student (transaction fee for credit card payments; no transaction fee for payment by check) and may be paid in full, by semester, or in monthly installments. Limited tuition assistance is available for families who qualify. Please inquire about tuition assistance at businessoffice@woodfordtheatre.com.
